Wine Escape: Florida Wineries
Florida’s grape scene is one of intrigue. The Muscadine grape, the Southeast’s little secret is the main grape grown to make wines in the Sunshine State. It’s a special grape, for more reasons than just its taste. It’s adaptable to the warm, humid climate in Florida, and is also disease resistant. But Florida also has wines outside of the traditional grape variety, some wineries stepping out of the box and spreading the diversity of the drink with fusion wines, and tropical citrus and berry wines. So it’s time to drink some wine, folks!
Live Outdoors: Bald Head Island
There’s a place called Bald Head Island just two miles across the Cape Fear River, where mainland life is left behind for a while. Transportation goes from cars and buses to golf carts, bicycles, and your own two feet. Fourteen miles of pristine beach wait to greet you, and you can play golf by the sea. It’s the site of Old Baldy, the oldest standing lighthouse in North Carolina. Bald Head Island is a place where there’s an abundance of outdoor activities, a place where you want to live your life outside.
Recipe: Green Bean Casserole
To this day, when visiting other families for the holidays, I find joy in seeing the green bean casserole laid on the table. Though eating anyone’s other than my father’s is like drinking sweet tea when expecting a coke-I have grown to only enjoy his haphazardly constructed masterpiece.
All Are Welcome: South Carolina’s Pineapple Symbol
A sign of hospitality across the South and the Caribbean, the pineapple was, historically, a rare and luxurious fruit. Before modern technology and fast transportation, it symbolized extravagance and wealth because fresh pineapple was so hard to come by.

Vista Developers: NC Mountain Living at its Best
When developer Stig Wennerstrom and his wife, Britt-Marie, set eyes on the Blue Ridge Mountains, they instantly fell in love. They had been searching for an area where it wasn’t too hot or too cold, and Western North Carolina was the perfect in-between with a mild, 4-season climate. After finding beautiful properties in the area, they brought to life their idea to help others create and build their dream homes-the start of Vista Developers. Now the family team, which includes their daughter and son-in-law, is developing beautiful upscale, gated communities with state-of-the-art amenities among the forests of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
