Wilmington’s Got the Summer Brews!

A growing trend throughout the United States is the popularity of microbrews; Wilmington, NC is no exception. With a wide arrange of personalities comes a wide range of taste. A long time staple of the area, Front Street Brewery offers a great selection of food to go along with their craft beers. Recently celebrating 25 years of business, Front Street Brewery celebrated by doing a collaboration with Port City Java, another Wilmington staple, who is also celebrating 25 years of business. The two are releasing a coffee flavored beer. Come by any day of the week between 3-5pm for a free tour and tasting.

Repurposing existing infrastructure is agrowing trend in the historic port city of Wilmington. Ironclad Brewery is an example of this as a venue of beautiful venue of two stories that was once an auto-repair shop (pictured below, left). Here you can enjoy live music while sipping the Cape Fear Defender IPA.

The recently moved and expanded, Wilmington Brewing Company is the creation of an alumni from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. You can not only have a glass here, but gather all the materials to make your own beers right at home. Interested? WBC offers free brewing demos at 1:30pm every Saturday.

The Brooklyn Arts District is home to Flytrap Brewing. Once an office building, you can now relax and enjoy the summer breeze on picnic tables, or enjoy the cool indoors playing many of the games they have to offer. Although they don’t server food, the Soulful Twist food truck right outside will take care of you.

Downtown isn’t the only place to grab a unique cold one. Right off the shores of the iconic Carolina Beach, is Good Hops Brewing. The well experience family also owns Lookout Brewing in Black Mountain, NC.

Good times are rampant in this spot, as they specialize in English style “session”ales, with low alcohol content. The perfect beer for hanging out, it tastes so good that you just can’t have one.

Can’t pick just one? Take the Port City Brew Bus! With the bus you don’t have to worry about a designated driver as you get a fun educational journey to three breweries. It will be the best field trip you’ve ever been on.
