Day Trip to Ozello
Day Trip to Ozello
Right here in Citrus County we have a rural 9-mile stretch of road known as the Ozello Trail…and, to those who travel it, it is stunning.
This little section of Citrus County offers locals the perfect combination of water and land in a perfectly natural environment. You simply will not believe the beauty of the sunsets here every evening.
The Ozello Trail
The main attraction is the Ozello Trail itself. You can get here from the Villages of Citrus Hills in just under 30 minutes by heading west, just south of Crystal River.
Once you arrive at the trail, you will already be deep into the Crystal River Preserve State Park and be completely surrounded by nature.
As you wind along the twists and turns of the Ozello Trail, look for a safe place to stop and admire the beauty along the way…and don’t go too fast! The speed limit here is only 35 miles per hour, and there is a good reason for that!
Pecks Old Port Cove
Towards the end of the trail, you will find yourself at Peck’s Old Port Cove. If you like fresh seafood, great views, and beer served in mason jars, this is the perfect spot for you! Pecks is famous for their blue crabs which they harvest on property.
On the menu, some of the stand-out items are the gator bites, stuffed grouper, oyster burgers, and the seafood platter. Also recommended is the all you can eat garlic blue crabs!
They will even cook to order your freshly caught and cleaned scallops and fish. You won’t be disappointed. So kick back at the Tiki Bar, and enjoy the weather while your fresh seafood is cooking.
Fishing & Kayaking
If you are going to take the time to explore Ozello, you don’t need to do it exclusively from your car or Peck’s Tiki Bar. There are plenty of places to stop and get your outdoors fix.
With all of the water throughout Ozello, kayaking and fishing are obviously extremely popular here. You will see people fishing from their kayaks, but this is also a great area to work on your fly-fishing.
If you prefer to keep both feet on dry land, there is a park on John Brown Road just off the trail where there is a fishing pier. This is a great place to cast your line.
Paradise Found Island Resort
In order to get the complete Ozello experience, you might also want to consider spending a day or two at Paradise Found Island Resort. This private island resort offers everything you might want to explore in one central location in the middle of Ozello.
Rather than explore on your own or try to find the best fishing spots, the resort offers guided tours and will tell you exactly where the best place is to catch fish. They will also rent you all the equipment so that you don’t need to bring anything.
Whether you are planning to stay for a few days, or just a few hours, you will be amazed by the beautiful way the land and water intermingle with each other throughout Ozello. And this beauty gets even more stunning as the sun sets over the Gulf of Mexico.
Enjoy Ozello. It’s another one of the many fantastic attractions located just a short distance from the Villages of Citrus Hills.
