A private, gated community known for its beauty as well as its personality, The Landings on Skidaway Island is located on the Intracoastal Waterway, only twelve miles from historic Savannah, Georgia. It is widely regarded as one of the premier Georgia gated communities. With forty miles of trails, The Landings offers easy access to the boundless beauty of nature, ready and waiting for residents to enjoy. In addition, it’s close enough to the city to give residents a taste of city living as well.
The amenities as The Landings seem endless. With six championship golf courses, three tennis centers and thirty-four courts, and two deep-water marinas, the community offers a wide variety of activities for active individuals. There is also a year-round, state-of-the-art Fitness and Wellness Center, which is over 50,000 square feet and includes spa services, yoga, fitness and water classes, a Pilates studio, pools, and steam rooms. Since twenty-three personal trainers are available, residents can achieve any fitness goal through customized workouts.
Four clubhouses make fine dining convenient with many different options, from farm-to-table fixings to gourmet dining. The Landings’ two-acre farm has various garden plots, along with an organic section, children’s garden, and European honeybee hive. The community garden also offers education programs and guest speakers, as well as providing farm-to-table food for residents. The garden is open to all Landings residents, but even if you don’t have a green thumb, you can still enjoy the fresh produce!
As if all of the amenities of The Landings weren’t enough, the community itself is tight-knit. Neighbors are friendly and involved. Over 100 social or community-related organizations exist at the Landings, from Habitat for Humanity groups to birdwatchers and garden groups. There are education groups, sports groups, and arts and crafts organizations. And if you’re looking for people with similar origins, there are international and state organizations, from Hoosiers and Buckeyes to Empire Staters. There is even a New Neighbors club devoted to helping new residents meet folks in the community who have common interests and make new friends.
Not only is The Landings full of friendly, active people, but it also features 150 lagoons stocked for fishing, two playgrounds, a village library, and a village center. For forty years, The Landings has been winning national awards for its community excellence. And there’s more to this place than just what is within the community.
A quick drive away is historic downtown Savannah, where cobblestone streets are shaded by towering oaks, dripping with Spanish moss. There are parks, such as Forsyth Park, and cathedrals like the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, which make sightseeing alone worthwhile. There are many fun walking and bus tours. Close to Savannah is the historic Old Fort Jackson, the state’s oldest remaining fort that dates back to 1808. Savannah boasts many museums, including a maritime museum, railroad museum, and Civil Rights museum.
