It may sound like a bar joke, but it’s a dream come true along Florida’s Nature Coast in Weeki Wachee. When Curt Reilly and his wife, Joanne decided to retire to Florida, they had no idea that one day Curt would be in charge of a 120 boat fleet, maintaining the safety of manatees and working with mermaids.

Adult Sea TurtleAlong the North Carolina coast we take the care of our local sea turtles very seriously. Volunteers from all over the coast come in to support the NC Sea Turtle Project, which was created to monitor sea turtle activity along the entire coast of North Carolina. The volunteers consist of all ages, children to adults, and some locals consider their home on the North Carolina coast to be one of the best places to retire because of how involved they can be in the protection of these beautiful animals.
Living the Life in Lake Retirement Communities
If I were going to retire, I’d want to retire on a lake. It’s home to me. But not in Minnesota. I’d want some place warm. Some place like Georgia or North Carolina-a place like Lake Lanier (Gainesville, Georgia), or Lake Hartwell (Toccoa, Georgia), or Bear Lake Reserve (Tuckasegee, NC).
