2014 Aurora Awards
Award-winning designs provide creative motivation for your new home. The 2014 Aurora Awards were presented in July 2014 at the Florida Home Builders Association-sponsored Southeast Building Conference in Orlando. Ideal-Living magazine sponsors the awards annually to showcase outstanding designs and building innovations. Josh Wynne Construction of Sarasota and architect Jonathan Parker of Looney Ricks Kiss (LRK) shared the spotlight by winning coveted Golden Aurora Awards.
Wynne’s Golden Aurora was for the most outstanding residential project – the TipTopHaus in Sarasota that embodied the best principles of contemporary and sustainable design. LRK won the Golden Aurora for the top commercial project, the Lift Wellness Center, the anchor of a mixed-use, infill “healthy community” in Jackson, TN.
This year’s Aurora Awards competition attracted a record 346 entries, according to Aurora Chairman Dave Robertson, of RPI Media (Ideal-Living). Entries from 13 states were judged by a panel of housing, design and construction experts.
Judges raved about Wynne’s TipTopHaus, which they termed “the evolution of the Bau Haus movement of days past. The clean lines and simple form inspired by the rich vernacular architecture of the famous neighborhood fit perfectly into the waterfront infill community where it stands. Naturally beautiful materials from the area highlight the stature of this home, which also featured LEED Platinum and FGBC Platinum green building certifications.”
The Lift Wellness Center also earned lofty praise from the judges, who said the “interior spaces were designed to enhance the users’ sense of well-being. Abundant daylight, a warm and nature-based color and materials palette, intuitively organized spaces, creative lighting and residentially-influenced furniture project comfort in the clinic spaces and energy and vitality in the fitness spaces. In addition to its goal of improving the health and wellness of the neighborhood and the city, the center also strives to encourage overall environmental well-being and is currently registered for LEED NC Silver certification.
In addition, Minto Communities won 15 awards, mainly for their Isles of Collier Preserve project in Naples, FL. The home pictured to the left is an example of attached housing at this project.
